FINAL UPDATE: April 22, 2009
AB357 was voted down yesterday in a 5 to 1 vote. Every Democrat voted NO with the lone Republican member voting in the affirmative. The bill was approved to be looked at again in the future but for now, the bill is dead.
Support and Opposition was as follows:

It is amazing to me that so many sheriffs and Law Enforcement personnel were present. The SCOTUS decided that police do not have the responsibility to protect the public and the LEO’s don’t want us to be able to do it ourselves. What is left? Please go to Assemblymember Steve Knight’s website and voice your support. Get involved. The assembly agreed to hear the bill again in the future. We would like to go into the next hearing with 100,000 signatures.

While trying to find out where we stand with AB357, I found the information below. I am unsure as to why the hearing has been cancelled and have been unsuccessful in my attemts to find anything posted as to a reason. I have sent a letter to Assemblymember Knight as well as a telephone message. I am hoping to have more information some time next week. - QB
